SUPERNOVA 2012hu = PSN J23012936+0653381
     A. J. Drake, S. G. Djorgovski, M. J. Graham, A. Mahabal, and R. Williams,
California Institute of Technology; J. L. Prieto, Princeton University; M.
Catelan, Pontificia Universidad Catolica de Chile; and S. M. Larson and E.
Christensen, Lunar and Planetary Laboratory, University of Arizona, report the
discovery of an apparent supernova in unfiltered Mount Lemmon Survey (MLS)
images:

 SN 2012 UT R.A. (2000.0) Decl. Mag. Offset
 2012hu   Dec. 11.11   23 01 29.36  + 6 53 38.1    17.4     13".2 E, 3".8 S

The variable was designated PSN J23012936+0653381 when it was posted at the
Central Bureau's TOCP webpage and is here designated SN 2012hu based on the
spectroscopic confirmation reported below. Further CCD magnitudes for 2012hu:
Sept. 22.23 UT, [20.5 (MLS); Dec. 18.062, 17.6 (R. A. Koff, Bennett, CO, USA;
Meade 0.25-m f/10 reflector + Apogee U-47 camera; limiting magnitude 19.5;
position end figures 29s.37, 38".1; UCAC3 reference stars; image posted at URL
http://antelopehillsobservatory.org/SNpictures/PSNJ23012936+0653381final.jpg);
18.072, 17.5 (L. Elenin, Lyubertsy, Russia; and I. Molotov, Moscow; remotely
taken with a 0.45-m f/2.8 telescope at the ISON-NM Observatory near Mayhill,
NM, USA; position end figures 29s.36 +/- 0".09, 37".4 +/- 0".08; UCAC-4
reference stars; limiting mag about 19.5; image posted at website URL

     M. Turatto, S. Benetti, L. Tomasella, A. Pastorello, E. Cappellaro, and
P. Ochner, Osservatorio Astronomico di Padova, Istituto Nazionale di
Astrofisica, report that optical spectroscopy (range 340-820 nm; resolution
1.3 nm), obtained on Dec. 17.72 UT with the Asiago 1.82-m Copernico Telescope
(+ AFOSC), shows that PSN J23012936+0653381 = SN 2012hu is a type-Ia supernova
at redshift z about 0.039. The best match was found with several type-Ia
supernovae about 1 week after maximum light. The expansion velocity, as
deduced from the position of the Si II 635.5-nm absorption, is about 10800
km/s. The Asiago classification spectra are posted at the following website
URL http://graspa.oapd.inaf.it; classification was made via GELATO
(Harutyunyan et al. 2008, A.Ap. 488, 383) and SNID (Blondin and Tonry 2007,
Ap.J. 666, 1024).
