SUPERNOVA 2012ho IN MCG -01-57-21 = PSN J22401702-0225341
     S. Hachinger, Lehrstuhl fuer Astronomie, Univsity of Wuerzburg; A.
Morales-Garoffolo and N. Elias-Rosa, Institut de Ciencies de L'Espai
(CSIC-IEEC), Barcelona; S. Taubenberger, Max-Planck-Institut fuer Astrophysik,
Garching; and L. Tomasella, Osservatorio Astronomico di Padova, Istituto
Nazionale di Astrofisica, report that an optical spectrogram of PSN
J22401702-0225341 = SN 2012ho (cf. CBET 3338), obtained with the Asiago 1.82-m
Copernico Telescope (+ AFOSC; range 360-820 nm; resolution 1.3 nm) on Dec.
9.70 UT, shows the typical features of a very young type-II supernova: a blue
continuum with weak lines of H and He I superimposed. At a redshift of 0.0099
(Springob et al. 2005, Ap.J. Suppl. 160, 149; via NED), the expansion velocity
of the ejected material, as deduced from the minimum of the broad H-alpha
P-Cyg-profile, is about 17000-17500 km/s. The Asiago classification spectra
are posted at website URL http://graspa.oapd.inaf.it; classifications were
made with GELATO (Harutyunyan et al. 2008, A.Ap. 488, 383) and SNID (Blondin
and Tonry 2007, Ap.J. 666, 1024).
