SUPERNOVA 2011hl
A. J. Drake, S. G. Djorgovski, M. J. Graham, A. Mahabal, and R. Williams,
California Institute of Technology; J. L. Prieto, Princeton University; M.
Catelan, Pontificia Universidad Catolica de Chile; E. C. Beshore and S. M.
Larson, Lunar and Planetary Laboratory, University of Arizona; and E.
Christensen, Gemini Observatory, report the discovery of an apparent supernova
in unfiltered Catalina Sky Survey (CSS) images:
SN 2011 UT R.A. (2000.0) Decl. Mag. Offset
2011hl Sep. 26.30 0 01 55.69 + 6 52 35.9 19.4 52".2 W, 18".5 S
Further CSS magnitudes for 2011hl: July 2.43 UT, [20.3; Sept. 18.45, 20.1;
Sept 19.32, 20.0.
L. Tomasella, S. Valenti, A. Pastorello, M. Fiaschi, anD S. Benetti,
Istituto Nazionale di Astrofisica, Osservatorio Astronomico di Padova, on
behalf of a larger collaboration, report that a low-S/N spectrogram of 2011hl
was obtained on Oct. 30.87 UT with the Ekar-Copernico 1.82-m telescope (+
AFOSC; range 380-820 nm; resolution 2.2 nm). Cross-correlation with a library
of supernova spectra using the "Supernova Identification" code (SNID; Blondin
and Tonry 2007, Ap.J. 666, 1024) suggests that 2011hl is a type-Ia supernova
at z = 0.08, two months after maximum.
