SUPERNOVA 2011in IN NGC 2966 = PSN J09421136+0440231
Further to CBET 2837, S. B. Cenko, W. Li, and A. V. Filippenko report the
LOSS discovery of an apparent supernova on unfiltered KAIT images:

SN 2011 UT R.A. (2000.0) Decl. Mag. Offset
 2011in Nov. 10.53 9 42 11.36 + 4 40 23.1 16.1 1".8 W, 0".6 S

The variable was designated PSN J09421136+0440231 when it was posted on the
Central Bureau's TOCP webpage and is here designated SN 2011in based on the
spectroscopic confirmation reported below. Nothing was visible at the
position of 2011in on a KAIT image from May 3.21 UT (limiting mag 18.5).

     J. M. Silverman, K. I. Clubb, and A. V. Filippenko, University of
California, Berkeley, report that inspection of a CCD spectrum (range 340-1000
nm), obtained on Nov. 26 UT with the Shane 3-m reflector (+ Kast spectrograph)
at Lick Observatory, shows that PSN J09421136+0440231 = SN 2011in is a type-II
supernova. After removal of the host-galaxy recession velocity of 2200 km/s,
determined from narrow emission features, the absorption minimum of the
H-alpha line is found to be blueshifted by about 5400 km/s.
