SUPERNOVAE 2009le AND 2009lf
     P. Challis, Harvard-Smithsonian Center for Astrophysics (CfA), on behalf
of the CfA Supernova Group reports that a spectrum (range 360-750 nm) of
2009le (cf. CBET 2022), obtained on Nov. 16 UT by P. Berlind with the F. L.
Whipple Observatory 1.5-m telescope (+ FAST), shows it to be a normal type-Ia
supernova. Cross-correlation with a library of supernova spectra using the
"Supernova Identification" code (SNID; Blondin and Tonry 2007, Ap.J. 666,
1024) indicates that 2009le matches a normal type-Ia supernova at a phase of
about ten days before maximum; the minimum of the Si 635.5-nm line is blue-
shifted by 19000 km/s. There is essentially no Milky Way extinction, and
there is no strong Na D in the spectrum from the host galaxy (ESO 478-6).
A spectrogram of 2009lf (cf. CBET 2023), obtained as above by Berlind, also
shows it to be a type-Ia supernova; cross-correlation with SNID indicates
that 2009lf matches the type-Ia supernova 1992A at a phase of three days
after maximum.
