SUPERNOVA 2009fi IN PGC 50294
     T. Boles, Coddenham, England, reports the discovery of an apparent
supernova (mag 17.7) on unfiltered CCD images taken on May 30.050 and 30.990
UT with a 0.35-m reflector. The new object is located at R.A. = 14h06m05s.80,
Decl. = +11o47'13".9 (equinox 2000.0), which is approximately 10".7 west and
6".4 south of the center of PGC 50294. Nothing is present at this position
on Boles' images from 2004 Mar. 1 and May 22 (limiting mag 19.5) or on
Digitized Sky Survey Plates from 1989 Apr. 8 (limiting red mag 20.5) and
1988 May 13 (limiting blue mag 21.0). Following posting on the Central
Bureau's unconfirmed-objects webpage, M. Nissinen and V.-P. Hentunen (Varkaus,
Finland) write that CCD images (limiting red mag 19.0) -- obtained remotely
with a 0.30-m telescope at the RAS Observatory near Mayhill, NM, U.S.A., on
May 31.18 -- yield magnitude R = 17.2 for 2009fi and position end figures
05s.81, 14".1 (offset 10".1 west, 5".9 south), adding that nothing is visible
at this position on a red Digitized Sky Survey image.
