SUPERNOVA 2009bw IN UGC 2890
Markku Nissinen, Esa Heikkinen, and Veli-Pekka Hentunen, Varkaus,
Finland, report their discovery of an apparent supernova (mag 16.0) on
CCD images (limiting mag 19.7) obtained on Mar. 27.871 UT was a Celestron
C-14 XLT reflector (+ Optec NextGen 0.5x focal reducer + SBIG ST-8 XME camera
+ Bessel R filter). The new object is located at R.A. = 3h56m06s.92, Decl.
= +72o55'40".9 (equinox 2000.0), which is 11" east and 22" north of the
center of UGC 2890. Nothing is visible at this position on their unfiltered
90-s CCD image taken on Feb. 15.72 (no limiting magnitude given) or on a
Palomar Sky Survey F plate (limiting red mag 20.8). Following posting on
the Central Bureau's unconfirmed-objects webpage, C. Jacques and E. Pimentel
(Belo Horizonte, Brazil) write that a 120-s unfiltered CCD image (limiting
mag 18.0) taken remotely on Mar. 29.11 with a 25-cm f/3 reflector at Gras
Observatory near Mayhill, NM, U.S.A., show 2009bw at mag 15.0 with position
end figures 06".95, 40".5, adding that nothing is visible at this position
on a Digitized Sky Survey image from 1994 Oct. 10 (limiting red mag 19.0).
