SUPERNOVAE 2009I, 2009J, AND 2009K
    M. Stritzinger, Las Campanas Observatory (LCO), on behalf of the Carnegie
Supernova Project, reports that he obtained spectra (range 380-940 nm) of
2009I (cf. CBET 1660), 2009J (cf. CBET 1661), and 2009K (cf. 1663) on Jan.
17.1 UT with the 6.5-m Magellan II (Clay) telecope (+ LDSS3).  The spectrum
of 2009I reveals it to be a young type-Ia supernova.  Comparison with a
library of spectra via the "Supernova Identification"code (SNID; Blondin and
Tonry 2007, Ap.J. 666, 1024) suggests that 2009I is very similar to SN 2003du
at 7-10 days before maximum; adopting a host-galaxy recession velocity of
7845 km/s (Catinella et al. 2005, A.J. 130, 1037) for the host galaxy (NGC
1080), Si II is measured to be blue-shifted by roughly 11000 km/s.  Supernova
2009J appears to be a peculiar type-Ia supernova; with the aid of SNID, he
finds this event to be most similar to SN 2005hk a few days past maximum.
Supernova 2009K is a young type-II event soon after explosion; its spectrum
exhibits shallow P-Cyg profiles of the Balmer series and He I (587.6 nm).
     E. Prosperi, Castelmartini, Italy, reports the following unfiltered CCD
magnitudes obtained with a 0.35-m f/10 Schmidt-Cassegrain reflector:  SN
2009I, Jan. 16.845 UT, 16.6; SN 2009K, Jan. 16.872, 16.1.
     Peter Marples, Loganholme, Queensland, Australia, reports his independent
discovery of SN 2009J on a CCD image takenon Jan. 14.456 UT with a 30-cm
reflector (+ Starlight Xpress camera).  C. Drescher (Brisbane) measured red
mag 17.5 and the following position for 2009J, apparently from Marples'
discovery frame:  R.A. = 5h55m21s.09, Decl. = -76o55'20".7 (equinox 2000.0).
