SUPERNOVAE 2009lu, 2009md, 2009me, AND 2009mf
     T. N. Steele, M. T. Kandrashoff, and A. V. Filippenko, University of
California, Berkeley, report that inspection of a CCD spectrum (range 350-1020
nm), obtained on Dec. 9 UT with the 3-m Shane reflector (+ Kast) at Lick
Observatory, shows that SN 2009md (CBET 2065) is a type-II supernova.
Cross-correlation with a library of supernova spectra using the "SuperNova
IDentification" code (SNID; Blondin and Tonry 2007, Ap.J. 666, 1024) indicates
that 2009md is most similar to SN 2005cs at four days past maximum; the
H-alpha emission component greatly dominates over H-alpha absorption. SN
2009mf (CBET 2067) is also a type-II supernova, again with highly dominant
H-alpha emission; cross-correlation using SNID indicates that 2009mf is most
similar to SN 2004et at two days before maximum. SN 2009me (CBET 2066) is a
type-Ia supernova near maximum light; cross-correlation with SNID indicates
that 2009me is most similar to SN 2003du at two days past maximum. A noisy
spectrum of SN 2009lu (CBET 2044) indicates that it is also a type-Ia
supernova; cross-correlation with SNID suggests an age of three weeks past
maximum light.
