SUPERNOVA 2009mf IN IC 65
     Ron Arbour, South Wonston, Hants, U.K., reports his discovery of an
apparent supernova (mag 16.1-16.2) on unfiltered CCD images (limiting mag
17.4-17.5) taken on Dec. 6.750 and 7.786 UT using a 0.3-m f/6.3 Schmidt-
Cassegrain reflector (+ Starlight Xpress CCD camera) in the course of his
supernova patrol. The new object is located at R.A. = 1h00m55s.88, Decl.
= +47o41'07".7 (equinox 2000.0), which is 3".9 east and 11".7 north of the
center of the galaxy IC 65. Nothing is visible at this position on
Digitized Sky Survey images taken at Palomar on 1989 Aug. 31 (limiting
blue mag 21.8) and 1989 Aug. 13 (limiting red mag 19.9). Arbour adds that
D. Briggs has confirmed the new object on a CCD exposure taken on Dec.
6.750 with the Hampshire Astronomical Group's 0.40-m f/4.5 reflector,
yielding mag 16.3 and position end figures 55s.89, 07".2. Following
posting on the Central Bureau's unconfirmed-objects webpage, D. Rich
(Hampden, ME, U.S.A.) reports that his unfiltered CCD image (limiting mag
about 18.8) taken on Dec. 7.12 with a 0.41-m reflector yields magnitudes
V = 16.7 and R = 16.3 with position end figures 55s.91, 07".5 for 2009mf.
