SUPERNOVAE 2009iq AND 2009ir
     Further to CBET 1918, J. Rex, S. B. Cenko, W. Li, and A. V. Filippenko,
University of California, report the LOSS discovery of two apparent supernovae
on unfiltered KAIT images:

Additional KAIT magnitudes for 2009iq in UGC 2308:  Aug. 3.47 UT, [19.1;
27.45, 18.0.  The type-IIn supernova 2006eh also appeared in UGC 2308 (cf.
CBET 600, IAUC 8741).  Additional KAIT magnitudes for 2009ir in UGC 10396:  a
co-added image from July 29 to Aug. 18, [20.3; Aug. 26.21, 19.3.
     J. M. Silverman, M. T. Kandrashoff, A. J. L. Morton, and A. V.
Filippenko, University of California, Berkeley, report that inspection
of a noisy CCD spectrum (range 340-1020 nm), obtained on Aug. 28 UT with the
3-m Shane reflector (+ Kast) at Lick Observatory, shows that 2009ir is a
type-II supernova.  The H-alpha emission greatly dominates over the absorption
component.  Cross-correlation with a library of supernova spectra using the
"SuperNova IDentification" code (SNID; Blondin and Tonry 2007, Ap.J. 666,
1024) suggests that it is within about one week past maximum light.  The
host-galaxy recession velocity is measured to be 8850 km/s from narrow
emission lines (H-alpha and [O II] 372.7 nm), significantly different from
the previously reported value of 6185 km/s (de Vaucouleurs et al. 1991,
Third Reference Catalogue of Bright Galaxies).
