SUPERNOVAE 2008fe, 2008fg, 2008fh, 2008fi, AND 2008fk
     J. M. Silverman, M. Modjaz, M. R. George, and A. V. Filippenko,
University of California, Berkeley, report that inspection of CCD spectra
(range 330-1050 nm), obtained on Sept. 7 and 8 UT with the 3-m Shane
reflector (+ Kast) at Lick Observatory, shows that 2008fe (CBET 1485) is a
type-IIP supernova, about one month after explosion.  After removing the
host-galaxy recession velocity (9280 km/s; de Vaucouleurs et al. 1991,
Third Reference Catalogue of Bright Galaxies), the minimum of the H-alpha
absorption is found to be blueshifted by about 5700 km/s.  SN 2008fg
(CBET 1489) is of type Ia, roughly 3 months after maximum brightness.
SNe 2008fi (CBET 1493) and 2008fk (CBET 1494) are of types IIb (shortly
after maximum) and Ia (a few days before maximum), respectively -- in
agreement with the results reported on CBET 1499.  After removal of the
2008fk's host-galaxy redshift of 0.07, determined from narrow emission
lines, the absorption minimum of the Si II 635.5-nm feature is found to
be blueshifted by about 11000 km/s.  The above spectral types and ages
were obtained through cross-correlation with a library of supernova spectra
using the "SuperNova IDentification" code (Blondin and Tonry 2007, Ap.J.
666, 1024).
     J. Nicolas, Vallauris, France, reports red mag 18.2 and the following
precise position for SN 2008fg from a CCD image taken on Aug. 27.076 UT
with a 0.28-m f/6.5 reflector:  R.A. = 3h18m44s.13, Decl. = +41o28'57".1
(equinox 2000.0).
     C. Pollas, ARTEMIS, Observatoire de la Cote d'Azur, Universite Nice
Sophia, on behalf the TAROT collaboration (M. Boer and A. Klotz,
Observatoire de Haute Provence, et al.), reports the following R
magnitudes for SN 2008fg obtained in the course of their supernova search
with the 0.25-m robotic telescope at Calern, under poor photometric
conditions:  July 12.1 UT, 16.6; Aug. 26.9, 17.7; Sept. 1.9, 17.0.  The V
magnitude of 2008fg was about 17.0 from July 25.7 to Sept. 1.9.
Pollas also reports the following approximate TAROT R magnitudes for SN
2008fh (cf. CBET 1492):  July 25.0, [17.0; Aug. 4.1, 17.8; 5.1, 17.1;
7.1, 17.5; 8.0, 18.0.
