SUPERNOVA 2008R IN NGC 1200
     S. Nakano, Sumoto, Japan, reports the discovery by Koichi Itagaki
(Teppo-cho, Yamagata, Japan) of an apparent supernova (mag 15.5) on numerous
unfiltered CCD frames (limiting magnitude 19.0) taken around Jan. 27.45 UT
using a 0.60-m f/5.7 reflector. The new object is located at R.A. =
3h03m53s.70, Decl. = -11o59'39".4, which is 12" west and 9" south of the
center of NGC 1200. Nothing is visible at this position on Itagaki's
images from 2006 Aug. 27 (limiting mag 19.0) and earlier. Nakano adds that
a confirming unfiltered CCD image of 2008R was obtained by K. Kadota (Ageo,
Japan, 0.25-m f/5.0 reflector) on Jan. 27.51, yielding mag 15.6 and
position end figures 52s.72, 39".3 (offset 11".4 west, 8".7 south of the
galaxy center). Following posting on the CBAT's unconfirmed-objects
webpage, P. Corelli (Pagnacco, Italy, 0.45-m f/4.5 telescope) reports that
ten 30-s unfiltered CCD images from Jan. 27.786 yield mag 16.4 for 2008R
and position end figures 53s.67, 38".9 (offset 12".8 west, 8".2 south of
the nucleus of NGC 1200); Corelli adds that nothing is visible at this
position on the Digitized Sky Survey (limiting red mag 20-21 presumed).
Ten 30-s images taken by Corelli on Jan. 28.838 indicate that 2008R had
brightened to mag 14.6 (measured position end figures 53s.81, 38".1).
