SUPERNOVAE 2008F AND 2008G
     S. Blondin, Harvard-Smithsonian Center for Astrophysics (CfA), on behalf
of the CfA Supernova Group, reports that spectra (range 350-740 nm) of 2008F
(cf. CBET 1207) and 2008G (cf. CBET 1208), obtained respectively on Jan.
14.15 and 14.17 UT by P. Berlind with the F. L. Whipple Observatory 1.5-m
telescope (+ FAST), shows them to both be reddened type-II-plateau supernovae.
Cross-correlation with a library of supernova spectra using the "Supernova
Identification" code (SNID; Blondin and Tonry 2007, Ap.J. 666, 1024) indicates
that 2008F is most similar to the type-II-plateau supernova 1999gi at one week
past explosion, and that 2008G is most similar to the type-II-plateau supernova
2004et at three weeks past explosion. Adopting a recession velocity of 5404
km/s for the host galaxy of 2008F (from Huchra et al. 1993, A.J. 105, 1637),
the maximum absorption in the H_alpha line (rest 656.3 nm) is blueshifted by
roughly 11000 km/s. Adopting a recession velocity of 5477 km/s for the host
galaxy of 2008G (from Huchra et al. 1999, Ap.J. Suppl. 121, 287), the maximum
absorption in the H_alpha line is blueshifted by roughly 9500 km/s.
