SUPERNOVA 2008X IN NGC 4141
     T. Boles, Coddenham, England, reports the discovery of an apparent
supernova (mag 17.6) on unfiltered CCD images taken on Feb. 7.005 and
7.937 UT with a 0.35-m reflector. The new object, designated 2008X, was
measured from the first image as being located at R.A. = 12h09m48s.33, Decl.
= +58o51'01".6, which is approximately 7".6 east and 4".6 north of the center
of NGC 4141 (position end figures from the second image are 48s.31, 01".4).
Nothing is visible at this position on Boles' images from 2007 Mar. 11 and
May 29 (limiting mag 19.5) or on Digitized Sky Survey images from 1993
May 11 (limiting red mag 20.5) and 1994 Jan. 16 (limiting blue mag 21.0).
An independent discovery of 2008X (at mag 17.9) has been reported by
D. Madison, W. Li, and A. V. Filippenko, University of California at
Berkeley, on an unfiltered KAIT image taken on Feb. 7.52 in the course of
the Lick Observatory Supernova Search (cf. CBET 1237); they provide
position end figures 48s.30, 01".2 (offset 7".8 east, 4".3 north), adding
that nothing is present on their archival image from 2007 June 24.23
(limiting mag 19.0).
