SUPERNOVA 2008ig IN ESO 269-20
Alessandro Dimai, Cortina d'Ampezzo, Italy, reports his discovery, in
the course of the CROSS program (cf. IAUC 7373), of an apparent supernova
(mag about 15.8) on two unfiltered CCD images (limiting mag about 18.0) taken
with a 25-cm Ritchey-Chretien Cassegrain "GRAS15" remote-controlled telescope
of the GRAS System at Moorook, Australia, on Dec. 15.78 UT. The new object --
which was confirmed at mag about 16.4 via five images (limiting magnitude
about 19.0) taken on Dec. 16.65 with a remote-controlled 36-cm Schmidt-
Cassegrain telescope of the "SkyLive System" at Grove Creek, Australia --
is located at R.A. = 12h58m05s.70, Decl. = -43o20'03".6 (equinox 2000.0),
which is about 24" west and 16" south of the nucleus of the apparent host
galaxy (ESO 269-20). Nothing is visible at this position on Palomar Sky
Survey infrared, red, and blue plates. The image of 2008ig from Dec. 16.65
