SUPERNOVA 2008bn IN NGC 4226
     Further to CBET 1311, R. Mostardi, W. Li and A. V. Filippenko, University
of California at Berkeley, report the LOSS discovery of an apparent supernova
on unfiltered KAIT images:

 SN 2008 UT R.A. (2000.0) Decl. Mag. Offset
 2008bn   Mar. 31.42   12 16 25.42  +47 01 40.5   16.5    9".0 W, 9".5 N

Additional KAIT magnitudes for 2008bn in NGC 4226:  Mar. 18.44 UT, [18.5;
Apr. 2.40, 16.4.
     M. A. Malkan, University of California, Los Angeles; and J. M.
Silverman, T. N. Steele, and A. V. Filippenko, University of California,
Berkeley, report that inspection of a CCD spectrum (range 330-1050 nm),
obtained on Apr. 1 UT with the Shane 3-m reflector (+ Kast spectrograph) at
Lick Observatory, shows that 2008bn is a young type-II supernova. The
spectrum consists of a nearly featureless, blue continuum. Very narrow
hydrogen Balmer emission may be from a superposed H II region, although a
contribution from supernova circumstellar material is also possible.
