NOVA IN M33
     R. M. Wagner, Large Binocular Telescope Observatory; S. G.
Starrfield, Arizona State University; and G. Schwarz, West Chester
University, write that they obtained a spectrum (range 340-670 nm;
resolution 0.6 nm) on Sept. 20.35 UT, with the Bok 2.3-m telescope
on Kitt Peak, of the apparent nova reported on CBET 1074. The
spectrum exhibits intense and broad emission lines of the Balmer
series of hydrogen and He I. The spectrum indicates that this object
is a "fast" He/N-class nova. The nova should fade quite rapidly,
so continued monitoring is encouraged.
     F. Kugel, Banon, France, reports that five unfiltered 60-s
CCD exposures taken around Sept. 19.896 UT by C. Rinner and himself
yield mag 17.0 and position R.A. = 1h33m58s.64, Decl. = +30o57'34".6
(equinox 2000.0).
     S. Nakano, Sumoto, Japan, reports the following additional
unfiltered CCD magnitudes of this nova obtained by K. Nishiyama and
F. Kabashima with a 40-cm f/9.8 reflector:  Sept. 19.726 UT, 17.2;
19.768, 17.4; 19.816, 17.3; 19.833, 17.3.  CCD magnitudes obtained by
Nishiyama, S. Urakawa, and T. Urata using the Bisei 1.0-m f/3.0
reflector on Sept. 20.506:  B = 18.1, R = 16.5.
