SUPERNOVA 2007ir IN UGC 2033
J. M. Silverman, M. Ganeshalingam, and A. V. Filippenko, University of
California, Berkeley, report that inspection of a low-quality CCD spectrum
(range 330-1030 nm), obtained on Sept. 19 UT with the Shane 3-m reflector
(+ Kast spectrograph) at Lick Observatory, shows that 2007ir (CBET 1067)
is indeed a supernova, but the classification is uncertain at this time.
Removing the host-galaxy recession velocity of 10900 km/s, determined
from host-galaxy narrow emission lines, the minimum of the strongest
observed absorption trough is found to be blueshifted by about 11000 km/s
if identified as Si II 635.5-nm (as in type-Ia supernovae), or by about
20000 km/s if identified as H-alpha (as in type-II supernovae).

superseded by text appearing later in the printed IAU Circulars.
