SUPERNOVA 2007oo IN UGC 12558
     S. Blondin, Harvard-Smithsonian Center for Astrophysics (CfA), on
behalf of the CfA Supernova Group, reports that a spectrogram (range
350-740 nm) of 2007oo (cf. CBET 1122), obtained by P. Berlind on Nov.
7.33 UT with the F. L. Whipple Observatory 1.5-m telescope (+ FAST),
shows it to be a highly reddened type-Ia supernova around maximum light.
The supernova spectrum is contaminated by that of its host galaxy.
Cross-correlation with a library of supernova spectra using the
"Supernova Identification" code (SNID; Blondin and Tonry 2007, Ap.J.
666, 1024) indicates that 2007oo is most similar to the type-Ia
supernova 2002bo at maximum. The absorption feature at 580 nm due to
Si II appears stronger than in normal type-Ia supernovae, which suggests
a possible sub-luminous event, but the low signal-to-noise ratio of
the spectrum prevents a definitive conclusion. Adopting a recession
velocity of 8921 km/s for the host galaxy (from The Updated Zwicky
Catalog, http://tdc-www.harvard.edu/uzc), the maximum absorption in
the Si II line (rest 635.5 nm) is blueshifted by roughly 12000 km/s.
