SUPERNOVAE 2006bo and 2006bq
     S. Blondin, M. Modjaz, R. Kirshner, and P. Challis,
Harvard-Smithsonian Center for Astrophysics, report that a spectrum
(range 350-740 nm) of SN 2006bo (cf. CBET 468, IAUC 8699), obtained on
Apr. 25.51 UT by J. Hernandez (University of Michigan) with the F. L.
Whipple Observatory 1.5-m telescope (+ FAST), shows it to be a reddened
type-IIn supernova around maximum light. The spectrum consists of a
blue continuum, and narrow emission lines of H_alpha (800 km/s FWHM)
and H_beta (700 km/s FWHM), characteristic of type-IIn supernovae.
Blondin et al. add that a spectrum (range 350-740 nm) of SN
2006bq (cf. CBET 479), obtained on Apr. 25.49 UT by Hernandez, shows it
to be a type-Ia supernova with a spectral-feature age (Riess et al.
1997, A.J. 114, 722) of 1 day past maximum light. Adopting a recession
velocity of 4601 km/s for the host galaxy (O'Neil 2004, A.J. 128, 2080),
the maximum absorption in the Si II line (rest 635.5 nm) is blueshifted
by 12000 km/s.
