SUPERNOVAE 2006ce AND 2006ci
J. Blackman, B. Schmidt, and W. Kerzendorf, Australian National
University (ANU), report that a spectrogram (range 360-950 nm) of 2006ci in
ESO 182-G10 (cf. IAUC 8713), obtained on June 6.57 UT with the ANU 2.3-m
telescope (+ DBS), shows features typical of a type-II supernova
approximately 1 month past maximum light. The velocity of the photosphere,
measured from Fe II 501.8-nm, is 7800 km/s -- assuming that the object's
redshift is 3549 km/s (Di Nella et al. 1996, A.Ap. Suppl. 118, 311) --
which is a relatively high velocity for a supernova of this age. A
spectrogram of SN 2006ce in NGC 908 (cf. IAUC 8709), obtained on June 6.83
UT, shows features typical of a type-Ia supernova; cross-correlation with a
library of spectra indicates that the object is approximately 35 +/- 5 days
past maximum light.
