SUPERNOVA 2006ea IN UGC 12134
     Further to IAUC 8733, D. Madison, D. Winslow, and W. Li report the
LOSS discovery of an apparent supernova (mag 18.8) on unfiltered KAIT
images taken on July 25.35 and 26.39 UT. The new object is located at
R.A. = 22h39m37s.91, Decl. = +11o46'16".0 (equinox 2000.0), which is
6".2 east and 3".9 north of the center of UGC 12134. Nothing was
visible at the location of 2006ea on KAIT images taken on 2005 Nov.
20.12 (limiting mag 19.5) and 2006 July 10.36 (limiting mag 18.7).
     A. V. Filippenko, D. S. Wong, J. M. Silverman, M. Moore, and R. J.
Foley, University of California, Berkeley, report that inspection of
CCD spectra (range 330-1040 nm), obtained on July 27 UT with the Shane
3-m reflector (+ Kast spectrograph) at Lick Observatory, shows that
2006ea is a supernova, probably of type Ib, about 1 week past maximum
brightness. He I absorption lines appear to be present, although there
is a chance that the object is of type Ia about 2 weeks past maximum.
