POSSIBLE NOVA IN M32
Federico Manzini, Sozzago, Italy, reports the discovery of an
apparent nova (mag about 17) in M32 (NGC 221) on 20 unfiltered CCD
images obtained on July 27.1 UT with a 0.4-m telescope in the
course of his supernova search. Manzini reported that the new
object was about 30" west and 50" north of the nucleus of M32.
Nothing was visible at this location on images taken on July 21.9
(limiting mag about 19.0). R. Behrend, Geneva Observatory, reports
that he measured red mag 18.2 for the new object from Manzini's image
on July 27.12, providing also the following precise position: R.A.
= 0h42m39s.16, Decl. = +40o52'47".2 (equinox 2000.0). Behrend adds
that a confirming image taken by Manzini on July 28.00 yields red
mag 17.2 (noting the 1-day brightening) and position end figures
39s.12, 46".9.
