DWARF NOVA IN AQUARIUS
     J. Prieto, Ohio State University (OSU); S. Anderson and A. Becker,
University of Washington; J. Marriner, Fermilab; M. Sako, University
of Pennsylvania; and S. Jha, Kavli Institute for Particle Astrophysics
and Cosmology, Stanford Linear Accelerator Center -- on behalf of the
SDSS Supernova Survey collaboration (cf. CBET 680) -- reports the
discovery of a Galactic hydrogen-deficient dwarf nova, likely a new
member of the rare "AM CVn" class. The object, located at R.A. =
20h47m39s.40, Decl. = +0o08'40".3 (equinox 2000.0), was discovered at
magnitude r = 17.8 using the SDSS 2.5-m telescope at Apache Point
Observatory on Oct. 12 UT. The variable star appeared to fade to r =
20.8 on Oct. 14 (observed under poor conditions) but re-brightened to
r = 18.3 on Oct. 18 and 20, and has faded again to r = 20.8 on Oct. 22.
A spectrum of the object, taken on Oct. 19.08 UT with the MDM 2.4-m
Hiltner telescope (+ OSU Boller and Chivens Spectrograph), shows a
blue continuum with shallow absorption lines of He I at 382.0, 386.7,
392.7, 400.9, 402.5, 414.4, 438.8, 447.1, 492.2, and 587.6 nm with zero
radial velocity.  The spectrum is similar to those of KL Dra (= 1998di;
Jha et al. 1998, IAUC 6983) and 2003aw (Chornock and Filippenko 2003,
IAUC 8084).
