SUPERNOVAE 2006gs, 2006jb, AND 2006kf
     R. J. Foley, M. Moore, D. S. Wong, D. Pooley, and A. V. Filippenko,
University of California, Berkeley, report that inspection of CCD spectra
(range 330-1040 nm), obtained on Oct. 24 UT with the Lick 3-m telescope (+
Kast) shows that 2006gs (IAUC 8754) and 2006jb (IAUC 8760) are type-II
supernovae. Adopting a recession velocity of 7400 km/s for SN 2006gs
(found from narrow emission lines), the minimum of the H-alpha P-Cyg
absorption is found to be blueshifted by 6200 km/s. Although the
spectrum of SN 2006jb is quite noisy, the emission component of H-alpha is
much stronger than the absorption component (if there is any), indicating
that it may be a type-IIL supernova. Examination of the spectrum of 2006kf
(CBET 686) shows it to be a type-Ia supernova, having a spectral-feature
age (Riess et al. 1997, A.J. 114, 722) of -5.3 +/- 2 days relative to
B-band maximum. Adopting the recession velocity of 6386 km/s (Huchra et
al. 1999, Ap.J. Suppl. 121, 287), the minimum of the Si II 635.5-nm
absorption is found to be blueshifted by 12600 km/s.
