BRIGHT VARIABLE STAR IN CASSIOPEIA
Further to CBET 711, S. Nakano forwards the following precise
position for the new variable from K. Kadota (Ageo, Japan, 0.25-m
f/5 reflector) from two unfiltered CCD images taken on Oct. 31.740
(star at mag 8.2) and 31.745 UT (mag 8.3): R.A. = 0h09m22s.04 +/-
0s.01; Decl. = +54d39'43".8 +/- 0".1 (equinox 2000.0). Nakano also
reports that Y. Sakurai (Otsuka-cho, Mito, Ibaraki-ken, Japan; 85-mm
f/1.4 Nihon lens + Fine Pix S2 Pro digital camera) obtained images
of the variable on Oct. 31.451, when the star was at mag 8.2 (he
provided position end figures 22s.6, 41'12"); nothing was visible at
this location on Sakurai's survey images from Oct. 14 (limiting mag
11.8). E. Waagen, AAVSO, confirms that no known variable stars are
catalogued at this location.
