SUPERNOVA 2007G IN UGC 68
     C. C. Jin, Y. Cao, F.-Y. Bian, Y.-Q. Lou, X. F. Wang, Y. Wu, and
Y. Yang, Tsinghua Center for Astrophysics (THCA), Tsinghua University,
Beijing, report the discovery of an apparent supernova (mag about 17.5)
on unfiltered archival CCD images taken on 2006 Dec. 12.51 and 2007
Jan. 9.48 UT (brightness unchanged) with the 0.8-m THCA-NAOC Telescope
(TNT) during the THCA Supernova Survey. The new object is located at
R.A. = 0h08m09s.81, Decl. = +27o00'11".4 (equinox 2000.0), which is
0".5 west and 3".2 south of the center of the eastern component in the
double-nucleus galaxy UGC 68 (PGC 167). Nothing was detected at this
location on a TNT image obtained on 2006 Oct. 3.55 (limiting mag 18.5).
W. Li, University of California at Berkeley, measures position end
figures 09s.78, 11".2 for 2007G (and offset 0".5 east, 1".5 south of
the western component of the nucleus of UGC 68) from unfiltered KAIT
archival images. Additional KAIT magnitudes for 2007G: 2006 Nov.
16.16, [19.0; Dec. 7.15, 17.3; 21.14, 17.3; 2007 Jan. 1.16, 17.4.
Li speculates that this could be a type-II-P supernova, as such objects
can remain at the same brightness for months if in a plateau phase.
