SUPERNOVA 2007am IN NGC 3367
     S. Blondin, M. Modjaz, R. Kirshner, and P. Challis, Harvard-
Smithsonian Center for Astrophysics, and T. Matheson, National Optical
Astronomy Observatory, report that a spectrum (range 350-740 nm) of 2007am
(cf. CBET 877), obtained on Mar. 14.29 UT by T. Groner with the F. L.
Whipple Observatory 1.5-m telescope (+ FAST), shows it to be a type-II
supernova around two weeks past explosion. The spectrum is strongly
contaminated by the host galaxy, giving rise to a red continuum and
suppressing weak supernova lines. Nonetheless, a strong P-Cyg profile of
H_alpha is clearly seen, consistent with the plateau phase of a normal
type-II supernova. The spectrum is most similar to that of the type-II-
plateau supernova 1999em at 16 days past explosion. Adopting a recession
velocity of 2991 km/s for the host galaxy (from "The Updated Zwicky
Catalog", http://tdc-www.harvard.edu/uzc/), the maximum absorption in the
H_alpha line (rest 656.3 nm) is blueshifted by roughly 11500 km/s. The
spectrum can be seen at the following URL: http://www.cfa.harvard.edu/
