SUPERNOVAE 2007fy, 2007fz, 2007ea, 2007eb
The "Nearby Supernova Factory" collaboration (G. Aldering, C. Aragon,
S. Bailey, S. Bongard, M. Childress, S. Loken, P. Nugent, S. Perlmutter, K.
Runge, R. C. Thomas, and B. A. Weaver, Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory,

Buton, Y. Copin, E. Gangler, and G. Smadja, Institut de Physique Nucleaire de
Lyon; P. Antilogus, R. Pain, R. Pereira, and C. Wu, Laboratoire de Physique
Nucleaire et de Haute Energies de Paris; D. Birchall, Institute for Astronomy,
University of Hawaii, Hilo; and J. Holtzman, New Mexico State University, Las
Cruces) reports the discovery of four supernovae in images obtained on July 18
UT using the QUEST-II camera on the Palomar Oschin 1.2-m Schmidt telescope,
operated by the Palomar-QUEST Consortium. Spectra (range 320-1000 nm)
obtained on July 19.3 and 19.5 with the SuperNova Integral Field Spectrograph
on the University of Hawaii 2.2-m telescope were used to classify each
supernova. R-band discovery magnitudes and astrometry were derived from
comparison with the USNO-B1.0 catalogue. The following table summarizes the
discovery information (including the redshifts, z).

SN 2007 UT R.A. (2000.0) Decl. Mag. z Type
2007fy July 18.2 14 47 49.47 +29 30 16.5 20.0 0.05 II
2007fz July 18.2 16 02 05.41 +29 43 34.8 16.5 0.01 II

2007eb July 18.5 22 42 37.33 +28 18 56.4 19.4 0.10 Ia

The spectrum of 2007fz indicates that it is potentially a very young type-II
supernova, with a very blue continuum and immature hydrogen features. There
are numerous narrow, unidentified features blueward of 500.0 nm (rest frame).
There is a P-Cyg feature with an apparent peak at 580.0 nm, probably too far
to the blue to be He I 587.6-nm. A redshift of z = 0.0142 is measured by
cross-correlating 2007fz's observed host spectrum with an Sa-type-galaxy
template. SN 2007eb is near maximum.
