SUPERNOVA 2007gi IN NGC 4036
     S. Nakano, Sumoto, Japan, reports the discovery by K. Itagaki
(Teppo-cho, Yamagata, Japan, 0.60-m f/5.7 reflector) reports his
discovery of an apparent supernova (mag 16.3) on multiple unfiltered
15-s CCD frames (limiting mag 19.0) taken around July 31.49 UT. The new
object is located at R.A. = 12h01m23s.42, Decl. = +61o53'33".8 (equinox
2000.0), which is about 23" west and 11" south of the nucleus of NGC 4036.
Nothing is visible at this location on the Digitized Sky Survey, on
Itagaki's many past frames up to 2006 Nov. 25 (limiting mag 19.0), and on
Itagaki's frame from 2007 July 23.49 (limiting mag 18.5). Following
posting on the Central Bureau's unconfirmed-objects webpage, V. Nevski,
Vitebsk, Belarus, reports that he observed 2007gi on July 31.923 at
unfiltered CCD mag 16.8 with a 0.3-m f/5 reflector, providing position end
figures 23s.53, 33".7 (and offset 22" west, 13" south). H. Yamaoka,
Kyushu University, writes that Itagaki has confirmed 2007gi with the
following unfiltered magnitudes: Aug. 1.468, 15.9; 2.471, 15.5. Position
end figures for 2007gi on these two nights are 23s.42, 33".9 and 23s.48,
34".1, respectively.
