2022 edition of the Spanish and Portuguese Relativity Meetings EREP Salamanca (Spain)
from August 29th to September 2nd.

The Spanish-Portuguese Relativity Meetings are annual conferences on broad aspects of General Relativity and Gravitation that date back to 1977. They are organized on an annual basis by one of the different groups doing research on Relativity and Gravitation in Portugal and Spain. This year we will celebrate the 100 years of the Friedman equations, obtained by Alexander Friedman in 1922.

Registration and abstract submission for this year event are now open. All the information can be found at the conference webpage:

https://erep2022.com/

Registration deadline is on June 30th and there is a 210 euros (180 for SEGRE members) participation fee. A limited amount of grants for students will be available.
[AAA] Convocatoria becas de doctorado en Astrofísica, Cosmología y Gravitación en Brasil
La fecha límite para inscripciones es 27 de mayo.

PPGCosmo is an international PhD program on Astrophysics, Cosmology and
Gravitation that aims to give PhD students the opportunity to develop a
successful international scientific career. The research topics range from
theoretical to observational aspects of Astrophysics, Cosmology and
Gravitation, including participation in collaborations such as LIGO, VIRGO,
J-PAS, Euclid and LSST. PPGCosmo is a joint program of 14 institutions in 9
countries.

Nine 4-year PhD positions are now available starting in August 2022. The
fellowship is R$3050 or R$ 2200, according to the candidate's
classification. The student will be supervised by a Professor at a Brazilian
institution and co-supervised by a Professor at an institution outside
Brazil. For the compulsory postgraduate courses the student will be mainly
based in Vitória (Espírito Santo, Brazil). The student will have
opportunities to visit the other Brazilian participating institutions and
will have to spend one year at the co-supervisor's non-Brazilian
institution.

German Research Centre for Geosciences:
PhD Position (f/m/x) for Groundwater Modelling
„Effects of Climate Change on Regional Groundwater Dynamics in North Central Europe“
Start date: as soon as possible
Fixed-term: 3 years
Working hours: Part-time 75% (currently 29.25 h/week)
Place of work: Potsdam, Telegrafenberg
Application by 31st May 2022: https://www.gfz-potsdam.de/en/career/job-offers

The overall goal of the PhD position is to assess how climate-related change in groundwater recharge, in sea level and in the level of surface water bodies will affect groundwater dynamics.
Groundwater dynamics is of key societal importance for drinking water management, agricultural irrigation and a safe and sustainable underground utilization in terms of geothermal energy production or storage of energy and green fuels such asgreen methane or hydrogen.
To assess such effects in a quantitative manner, novel process modelling workflows have to be developed to overcome current limitations e.g. due to representation of large-scale processes and their feedback with anthropogenic engagement. This implies further development of existing multiphysics and parallel scalable software solutions to improve our current understanding of the coupled processes linking shallow and deep fluid flow dynamics and thermo-hydraulic-mechanical consequences related to such changes.
The focus is to investigate the current coupling capacity including feedback effects within model representations linking processes above surface with those in the subsurface in a modelling workflow and to evaluate the relevant temporal and length scales.
Your responsibilities:
➢ Integration of geological, hydrogeological and geophysical data into consistent 3D geo-models
➢ Numerical simulations of coupled Thermal-Hydraulic-Mechanical processes under consideration
of observed subsurface heterogeneities and of changing above-surface boundary conditions
➢ Coupling output from other scientific groups working on above-surface process simulations to subsurface simulations of coupled Thermal-Hydraulic-Mechanical processes
➢ Validation of the simulation results against observations
➢ Quantification of the long-term effects considering varying external forcing related to changes in environmental boundary conditions testing different climate scenarios
➢ Interpretation and publication of the results
Your qualifications:
➢ An MSc or diploma degree in Physics, Mathematics or Geosciences is mandatory
➢ Sound background of thermo-hydraulic-mechanical relationships in porous media
➢ Good background in hydrogeology and rock mechanics
➢ Basic knowledge in 3D structural modelling and numerical methods
➢ Programming skills (e.g. Python, Fortran or C/C++) are of advantage
➢ Very good English language skills
