<div>This call for candidatures is for the recruitment of a Ph.D. student to conduct research under the co-</div>
<div>supervision of Prs. Philippe Morissette and Bernard Giroux, affiliated with the Department of Mining,</div>
<div> </div>
<div>Metallurgical and Materials Engineering at Université Laval and the Institut National de la Recherche</div>
<div>Scientifique (INRS), in Quebec City. The research project, conducted with a recognized industrial</div>
<div>partner, aims at expanding knowledge in the management of mining-induced seismicity in deep</div>
<div>underground mines. The objective of the project is to improve and validate a method, based on the</div>
<div>ensemble Kalman filters, to track seismic velocity changes in the rock mass directly from seismic data.</div>
<div> </div>
<div>The project will aim at confirming the relationship between seismic velocity changes and mining-</div>
<div>induced stress changes, experimentally, based on in-situ stress measurements.<br>

<div>Requirements<br>
</div>
<div>• A master’s degree in the field of mining engineering, geological engineering, or geophysics.</div>
<div>Relevant skills</div>
<div>• Seismic data processing and analysis;</div>
<div>• Programming (C++, Matlab or Python);</div>
<div>• Experience with the ensemble Kalman filter (EnKF);</div>
<div>• Experience with in-situ stress measurement is an asset;</div>
<div>• Field experience in underground mines is an asset;</div>
<div>• Fluency in English, both oral and written;</div>
<div>• Reading and speaking fluently in French is an asset.<br>
