<span style="font-size: 16px;">Applications are open for 1 full-time 4-year PhD student position in theoretical and computational astrophysics at the Department of Astronomy of the University of Geneva to start in spring 2020. The position is associated with the SNF-funded Ambizione project “<em>Seismic inversions and modelling of transport processes inside stars</em>”, lead by <strong>Dr. Gaël Buldgen</strong>. The successful candidate will work on asteroseismic inferences of the internal structure of low-mass main-sequence and evolved stars.</span><br style="font-size: 16px;">

<span style="font-size: 16px;">The project focuses on the development, improvement and application of asteroseismic modelling techniques, with an emphasis on seismic inversions. The project will couple the use of advanced seismic inference methods to the implementation and testing of transport mechanisms in the Geneva stellar evolution code for CoRoT , Kepler and TESS targets. </span><br style="font-size: 16px;">

<span style="font-size: 16px;">The Geneva Observatory and the associated Laboratory of Astrophysics of the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology in Lausanne (EPFL) carry out observational, interpretative, and theoretical research in the fields of extra-solar planets, stellar physics, high energy astrophysics, galaxy evolution and dynamics, and observational cosmology, providing a rich and vibrant research environment.</span><br style="font-size: 16px;">

<span style="font-size: 16px;">Candidates are expected to have a solid background in physics or astronomy.
