Estimados,

future: understanding galaxy evolution with NGC 3311".

However, to understand this process looking to particular galaxies is challenging, given that we have access only to a snapshot of these systems as they are captured by our telescopes. In this talk, I will show how we can connect observations and theoretical expectations using the galaxy NGC 3311, a giant elliptical galaxy at the core of the Hydra cluster, as a test case. Based on photometric and spectroscopic observations, I will show that ages and the metallicities of stars in NGC 3311 can be used to study the properties of stars when the universe was young, whereas the kinematics of the system shows us the complex interactions happening right now within the system. Finally, I will present what else we can learn with NGC 3311 (and other galaxies) as we refine our models and methods in the future.
